Agriculture Safety

Working near power lines on the farm comes with real risks. A few essentials to keep your operation safe:

• Keep your distance. Stay at least 7 metres from power lines when parked or operating equipment, and never trim trees closer than 7 metres to a line.
• Know your equipment height. Max height passing under lines: 5.3 m on roads/highways, 4.2 m at farm entrances. Taller than 4.15 m on a public road? You'll need a permit.
• Watch for grain bins, augers & irrigation lines. Plan placement before installing or moving equipment, and always look up and check clearances first.
• If you contact a power line: stay calm and stay in the equipment. Call 911 and 310-WIRE (9473). If you must exit due to fire, jump clear and shuffle away with feet together.

Moving High Loads

Moving tall equipment like grain augers or irrigation pivots? Know the max height clearances before you go, and plan your route around overhead lines.

Locate Underground Power Lines

Digging, driving posts, or moving equipment? Know where the lines are before you dig. Underground lines can sit closer to the surface than expected, or shift over time — always ask "Where's the line?" first.

• Submit a locate request at least 3 business days before planned work.
• It's free. A technician marks the location of buried lines on your property at no cost.
• Respect the marks and hand-expose within 1 metre of a marked line before mechanical digging.
