Outage notifications may include:
The reason for the outage- When the outage is expected to begin
- Updates on restoration timelines
- Confirmation when the power has been restored
To receive planned power outage notifications, make sure your phone number and email address are up to date with your electricity retailer. You can also visit the FortisAlberta outage map for the latest information. To receive SMS text messages, please update your primary phone number to a mobile number.
Preparing for medical needs
If you rely on a medical device that requires electricity to operate or recharge, it is important to have a backup plan in place in case of a power outage.
You may also be eligible to have your account identified as having a power-dependent medical device through your electricity retailer. When possible, customers with this designation may receive personalized advance notice of planned power outages and Public Safety Power Shutoffs.
To add this designation to your account, please contact your electricity retailer. Identifying your account does not guarantee uninterrupted electrical service.
Important: Identifying your account as having a power-dependent medical device does not guarantee uninterrupted electrical service. Customers who rely on electricity for medical equipment should always maintain a backup power plan and emergency preparedness measures.
