Reliably powering your day

Jan 13, 2025, 20:34 PM

Your electricity service is one of those things that is more successful the less you have to think about it.

The lights in your shop come on when you flip the switch. Your TV glows with life whenever your family’s ready to binge their favorite show. Your cell phone is charged and ready to help you stay connected to your world. The streetlights in your town light your way home on the darkest of winter nights.

So much of what Albertans do in a day depends on the reliable delivery of electricity.

At FortisAlberta, we safely deliver power where and when you need it, so you don’t have to think about it.

“Our commitment to the reliability of the system is central to what we do. Our investment in technology, design and construction standards and system operations and maintenance ensures we deliver dependable power to Albertans across our service area in all kinds of weather,” said Janine Sullivan, President and CEO.

In November, Electricity Canada, the national voice for the electricity business in Canada, awarded FortisAlberta the 2024 Reliability and Resiliency Award, recognizing our continuing leadership in grid reliability and resiliency among Canadian utilities. FortisAlberta is the first repeat recipient of this award, having first received it in 2022.

Reliability refers to the ability of the electricity grid to dependably deliver electricity to customers with minimal interruptions. Resiliency refers to the ability of the grid to withstand severe weather conditions and the impacts of nature and time.

Building and maintaining a reliable and resilient grid requires ongoing investment in technology, exploration and management of new materials and a skilled workforce dedicated to keeping the lights on for our customers.

“We’re proud to be recognized once again by Electricity Canada as the nation’s leading utility in delivering reliable power because it means we’re not only delivering consistent, quality service to our customers, we’re giving them one less thing to think about,” said Sullivan.
