Our employees' generosity presses the right “Button” for Alberta Guide Dogs

For the past six years, our Contact Centre has donated proceeds from Jeans Weeks to adopt dogs through the BC and Alberta Guide Dogs. The organization trains guide dogs for two years, and then provides them at no charge to blind/visually-impaired recipients or to children with autism.

Last year, our Contact Centre adopted five dogs with the $1,250 they raised through Jeans Weeks.

“Many of us love animals,” says Dawn Press, Contact Centre Team Lead. “Every year, we love seeing the new adopted puppies and hearing updates about their training.”

In March 2016, an update was provided on the most recent FortisAlberta guide dog ‘graduate’ Button:

“It gives me much pleasure to thank all those involved in the wonderful gift of my second guide dog. Button is a sweet tempered, fun-loving, lively female yellow Labrador. After 10 wonderful years with my first dog, I thought I could never love another,” says Sue, Button’s new owner.

“It’s great that we can see where our donations are going,” says Morgan Frank, Customer Service Representative. “They give us updates on the puppies and let us know what steps the dogs are at.”
